Painting, drawing and writing

A bit about me

The best I have done so far since I can remember is applying my vital experience on a canvas or a piece of paper. I work with oil paint, acrylic, watercolours, ink, colour markers and even with procreate.

Travelling fuels all my work and here, you can look at some of what I do.

Oil painting works (some of Syrian collection)

“Engagement” Oil on canvas 100x81 cms. (Series of Syria. Deir Zzor.)

Oil paint is the way I trust most, despite my background based on graphic stories. Colors bright up with the first brush stroke. Besides, it is elastic and affords an endless number of possibilities. I have never seen a blanc, neither on a canvas nor on a paper, but with oil painting I know I will be able to execute every each idea spinning in my mind.

Here you can see my series based on the war of Syria, where I tumbled from 2015 to 2018, along with arab tribes, Kurds and Yazidies. No need to mention the toughness of an area in a brutal war, like Syria was, specially at its northeastern side. It took me two years to decide starting to paint my memories.

I do not need one single photograph to portray my ideas on a canvas. Memory and imagination are my most reliable tools.

The paintings you see in this page and the two below take the whole series called “Deir Ezzor” and tell the different battles along the river Euphrates against ISIS.

“The price” Oil on canvas 100x81 cms. (Series of Syria. Deir Zzor.)

“Earth and Sky” Oil on canvas 100x81 cms. (Series of Syria. Deir Zzor.)

Through the years between 2017 and 2019 the Arab units controlling the southernmost shores of the river Euphrates carried out uncountable operations against ISIS to get their lands back. That long campaign was called the wrath of the Euphrates. Nowadays, it is a new chapter in the history of Syria stretched in thousands of years.

“The break” Oil on canvas 100x81 cms. (Series of Syria. Deir Zzor.)

In spite of the bitterness, roughness and extreme danger that a war means, I felt so lucky not only for leaving Syria alive but also for being so privileged of rolling and live with them.

“The departure” Oil on canvas 100x81 cms. (Series of Syria. Deir Zzor.)

“Berxwedan” Oil on canvas. 116x95 cms.

In 2015 I had my very first contact with the Syrian war against ISIS, And I had the honor to go with Kurdish tabor called Berxwedan.

This little village on the canvas just emerges straight from my memories, in the way I can remember it.

At our arrival we were surrounded and ambushed by an invisible enemy that knew exactly how to hide and move themselves to turn out as deadly as possible. But my mates knew exactly what to do

Excerpts from my South American notebook

Travelling has become an actual source of inspiration. Manu Leguineche, war reporter and traveler, claimed that getting into unknown territories alone has always proved to be the shortest way to know oneself. And I have always tried to follow that philosophy upon any other. In my luggage I never miss putting a notebook, a couple brushes and a fistful of colours.

Watercolours are a handy way to move around and always approach my expectations.

Graphic story

The pillars and roots of all what I do rest on graphic story. Here you can see some samples of how I work. During the process, depending of what the scripts commands, I use black ink or colour markers.
